Deep Water Bay, Repulse Bay and South Bay are found on the south side of the island and are some of the quieter and more picturesque districts in Hong Kong. Because of its low density and easy access to some of Hong Kong's most popular beaches, the area is a big hit with foreign families. Only a 15 to 30-minute drive to Central, properties in Repulse Bay are also close to international schools, well-stocked gourmet supermarkets and Hong Kong's finest golf, cricket & yacht clubs.
Properties in this upscale neighborhood are strongly favored by the city's wealthier residents, with a large number of spacious detached and semi-detached houses. These homes are unique in character with distinct architectural styles and private outdoor spaces. Apartments in colonial, low-rise buildings remain as testaments to Hong Kong's historic past and are generally spacious with high ceilings. The interior of many houses in Repulse Bay has been upgraded to modern standards. The middle portion of Repulse Bay Road, in addition to most of South Bay Road, consists mainly of mid-rise buildings. High-rise developments are concentrated behind or adjacent to Repulse Bay Beach. These include 'The Repulse Bay', 'Grosvenor Place' and 'The Lily' which all boast excellent club facilities. Hong Kong Parkview is a popular development located at the front section of Tai Tam Reservoir Road, near the top end of Repulse Bay and on the outer fringes of Tai Tam Country Park. Its shorter commute to Central, alongside its extensive facilities, makes it one of the most sought-after complexes on the south side.
Hong Kong International School (HKIS)'s primary school campus is located in Repulse Bay, while its secondary school is situated in nearby Tai Tam. HKIS follows the American curriculum. Bradbury Junior School and South Island School are both members of the English Schools Foundation (ESF), with residences in these districts falling into their catchment areas. The Canadian (CDNIS) and Singaporean International Schools are found on Nam Long Shan Road and are recognized International Baccalaureate World Schools. CDNIS is also authorized to grant credits toward the completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). International kindergartens in the neighborhood include Parkview International Pre-school, Southside Kindergarten, and The Woodland Pre-school.
The residential community consists of many expatriates - due largely to the wide range of international schools in the surrounding area, as well as its noted tranquility. One of the main attractions of both Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay is their long public beaches. Two smaller beaches are found at South Bay and Middle Bay, a short walk away from Repulse Bay Beach. These tend to be less crowded as there are no direct bus routes. Most necessities, such as banking and medical services, dry cleaning and groceries can be found in the Repulse Bay Shopping Centre. The Hong Kong Golf Club, Hong Kong Country Club, Aberdeen Marina Club and American Club are all a short drive away.
