Happy Valley is a residential suburb on the northern side of Hong Kong Island that centers around one of Hong Kong’s two famous racecourses. It is located next to Causeway Bay. Properties are a mixture of older low-rises and mid-rises, serviced apartments and new high-rise developments. The more up-market Jardine’s Lookout is positioned just above this with a gated neighborhood rich in townhouses. Central is 10 minutes away by bus or taxi, while Kowloon is easily accessible through the Cross Harbour Tunnel. Housing: Residential buildings in Happy Valley are generally mid to high-rise in the lower portion and low to mid-rise in the upper portion. Most properties have mountain or racecourse views. There are many semi-detached houses in Jardine’s Lookout, as well as some low-rise residential buildings with large family apartments. The high rise developments in Happy Valley and Jardine’s Lookout are generally modern and have a wide range of communal facilities. Schools: The French and Japanese International Schools are located nearby. Both have primary and secondary school sections. The Woodland Pre-school is located on Hawthorn Road in Happy Valley. Highlights: One of Hong Kong’s two racecourses is found in Happy Valley. In line with this, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is located close by, in the heart of Happy Valley’s residential community. The Hong Kong Football Club is located in Causeway Bay, and is a popular social and sports centre, especially among the expatriate community. Both Happy Valley and Jardine’s Lookout are self contained, each with its own bank, post office, supermarket, and convenience store. The Hong Kong Sanatorium is located at the base of Happy Valley and is one of Hong Kong’s best equipped private hospitals.
