Often referred to as the shopping district of Hong Kong, Causeway Bay is found on the north side of Hong Kong Island. Although it is largely a commercial and retail district with well-known complexes such as Times Square and Sogo, there are a number of residential properties scattered throughout the area. With the Cross Harbour Tunnel linking it to Kowloon, and Central being just 3 stops away on the MTR, Causeway Bay is easily accessible from almost everywhere in Hong Kong. Tin Hau is one stop along on the MTR and overlaps with Causeway Bay’s southeastern boundaries. Housing: Residential buildings can be found in quieter areas near Victoria Park, such as Kingston Street. There are some apartments among the busier retail areas. Causeway Bay also encompasses the less commercial area of Tin Hau, where there are a number of mid to low-rise residential buildings. Serviced apartments are common, and are wide-ranging in both type and style. Schools: The French International School is located nearby in Jardine’s Lookout, and follows the International Baccalaureate program. There are a few kindergartens & primary schools in the area, including branches of The Woodland International Pre-school and the International Montessori School. Highlights: Causeway Bay is an excellent shopping district, with popular retail complexes such as Times Square and Sogo, as well as large selection of restaurants and cafés. It is the world’s second most expensive shopping strip in terms of rental, and attracts brands and tourists alike. Victoria Park is one of Hong Kong’s major recreational sites. Its open, green spaces stretch eastwards towards Tin Hau and offer a partial retreat from the hustle-and-bustle of city life. The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is located on Kellett Island, on the waterfront of Causeway Bay. The Noonday Gun, used previously as a gun salute to welcome arriving dignitaries is fired every day at noon, a tradition that has continued from Hong Kong’s days under the British. The Hong Kong Central Library, HK’s main library, is located near Tin Hau MTR Station.
